Meet the speakers of the iMPaCT-Implants Closing Event on 6 November 2026!

As part of Session 3: Materials and shapes, we’re pleased to welcome two experts at the forefront of personalized implant innovation:

Personalized triggered release of antimicrobials

Prof. Patrick van Rijn | UMCG, Biomaterials & Biomedical Technology

This project develops smart implant coatings that release antibiotics on demand through ultrasound activation, improving infection treatment in hard-to-reach areas while minimizing antibiotic exposure.

3D design and production of personalized medical devices for patients with airway

Assoc. Prof. Gyuri Halmos | UMCG,Ear, Nose & Throat

The objective of the project is to realize innovative, individualized medical devices for patients with airway problems using 3D technology. In the various work packages, steps are being taken towards the design and production of trachea cannulas, laryngectomy tubes, vocal cord implants (and required customized surgical instruments) and facial masks for non-invasive ventilation based on 3D technology.
